Backpack Program

Our “Backpack Program” is a weekly service project that helps children under the age of 14 in our community.  This project was started in 2012 and provides food and extra nutrition for children that struggle with hunger during their weekends away from school.  This project has gained the support of all the local churches in Darlington, many service groups and individuals from the community who wish to donate food or money.

If packing backpacks sounds like fun, join us in the church basement at 9:30 every Thursday morning during the school year.

If you would like to make a monetary donation or a donation of food please contact the church and we can set that up.

Peanut Butter and Jelly Mission

Hey, have you heard about the peanut butter and jelly church?  Well, now you have!  We have taken it on as a mission of our church to provide peanut butter and jelly to food pantries in Montgomery County. Peanut butter is widely known as a great source of nutrition and when combined with some jelly and bread – a filling staple becomes available for our neighbors who are facing food insecurity.

Please join us in filling the pantries with these staple items by grabbing a couple of jars on your next shopping trip.  Type (creamy/crunchy), brand (generic store brand/name brand), and size (small, medium, large, extra-jumbo large) do not matter, all donations are appreciated.  The same rules apply for the jelly options.

Mission Guatemala

Mission Guatemala’s philosophy is based on John Wesley’s teaching to “Do all the good you can”.

As a United Methodist-related organization, Mission Guatemala believes that all people deserve to be respected and have their basic needs met and that Christians have a calling to help others where they are able. Therefore, Mission Guatemala collaborates with community members, international mission teams, and other non-profits to help meet the needs of Guatemalans living in poverty in the service areas of health, education, nutrition, and community development.

Every year Darlington United Methodist Church sponsors a young boy and young girl through this organization.  We show our support through monetary donations, cards and letters and LOTS of prayers.
